The wait is almost over. Tonight, Apple will unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its September event, marking the start of John Ternus’s era after Tim Cook’s departure. Expected to feature the biggest camera upgrade ever, the iPhone 18 Pro is heavily tipped to introduce variable aperture for the first time, giving photographers more control over depth of field and background blur.
Apple reportedly delayed the standard iPhone 18 to 2027, focusing this year’s launch on the Pro models and a rumored foldable phone. Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to open at midnight on Saturday 12 September, a day later than usual. Apple is also rumored to be shifting its iPhone launch schedule from a single annual event to spread launches throughout the year, potentially launching the regular iPhone 18 in spring 2027.
The iPhone 17 Pro’s price has been slashed by £100 ahead of the launch, with Tim Cook warning of unavoidable price hikes due to rising component costs. Analysts predict a $100–$300 price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, making them the most expensive Pro models ever. Supply chain issues, particularly with DRAM chips, could further limit availability.
Design-wise, the Dynamic Island will be shrunk, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be slightly thicker and heavier. The camera system is expected to undergo a major upgrade with variable aperture and improved sensors. Apple is also reportedly testing a deep red colorway for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, alongside dark cherry, light blue, and silver options.
The leaked data from Apple’s manufacturing partner Tata Electronics includes supplier lists, engineering documents, and unreleased prototype images, raising concerns about a potential supply chain breach.
